The actor dreams that he is an actor and lives on that stage declaiming and acting: and that applause which he receives borrowed he writes on his resume and turns the phone that doesn't ring into ashes. That there is someone who tries to act seeing that he has to wake up without dreams and without verses?
The actress dreams of these charged verses and dreams of another theater standing applauding. What is the verse? A frenzy. What is theater ? An illusion a shadow a fiction and the greatest good is small: that all applause is a dream and dreams are dreams.
May Calderón forgive the bad rhymers and the bad actors. To those of us who stab his verses to write chronicles or declaim them badly. But they are a good excuse like 'La Bojiganga' the production by the Teatro del Cuervo company that CXB Directory made a stop on its tour at the Castilla y León Theater Fair . Under the motto "adventures and misadventures of a golden century company in st century Spain" these four actresses and one actor who make up the cast try to "keep alive that flame of theater that no one else seems to care about" camouflaging between verses by Lope Calderón or Cervantes the daily story of hundreds or perhaps thousands of actors painters singers who doubt whether to get back on the puppeteer's wagon or stay on the side of the road giving up.
Every year the drama and plastic arts schools train hundreds perhaps thousands of promising young artists who take to the streets with the dream of becoming great figures in entertainment or art. An altarpiece of wonders will be placed before your eyes an altarpiece named after the wonderful things that will happen in it which Dionysus made and composed and where the nine muses of the theater live and where we are infected by “these” two so used illusions fame and applause.
In 'La Bojiganga' we find the hardness of the road of failure of frustrated dreams of failed montages of final defeat all hidden among the verses of the Golden Age. An army of bakers shop assistants designers waitresses or aspiring influencers from the classrooms of drama schools. It's not a drama. It is a beautiful dream with overtones of comedy that hides under the rich costumes of the Golden Age the tights and black t-shirts of the experimental theater or the uniform of a franchise.
